I Love You

Today I have a question for you.  How often do you tell your spouse and children you love them?  In recent posts I have talked about our attitudes toward our family and how we speak to them.  But do we tell our family we love them?

In our home we say those three little words often.  However, in recent months I have noticed that, for me, it is more of a habit than a feeling.  Now, please do not misunderstand me.  I deeply love my husband and children.  I am married to a wonderful man and my children are my little blessings from Heaven.  But I have been saying "I love you" with a bit of indifference.

When we tell someone, specifically our spouse and children, that we love them, we should make eye contact and have feeling in our voice.  We should make sure they know that we mean the words.  I am famous for saying love you.  Why can I not add the I?  It should be personalized.  I love you, not just love you.  I never want my husband or children to doubt that I mean it when I tell them I love them.

Today look your husband/wife and each child in the eye and say I love you.  Let your family know how much they mean to you and that you are thankful for them.

Have a great weekend!

Sweet Blessings~

P.S. Ladies, don't forget to greet your husband with a smile and kind word today.  Set a happy tone for your home this evening.

  1. I love this, John used to say I love you every 5 minutes because he didn't really have anything better to say but he didn't like the silence, now we have balance and both of us truly mean it when we say it. That's the power of God working in our marriage. Thank you for this reminder!

  2. I also have gotten in the habit of just saying I love you. After reading your post I really need to work on putting feeling in it. Thanks for a really great post.

  3. Amen! I want to mean what I say. I don't want "I love you" to just be something I say out of habit, but out of my heart.
    Thanks for this encouragement.

  4. Thank you for the reminder Jenifer! My Wife and I make it a point every day to focus on the love we feel for each other, and not just the words and it makes all the difference in the world! Have a Blessed Day!

  5. We say I Love You very often too! I tell my children several times a day because I want them to KNOW that their mama loves them.

  6. With my kids my "I love yous" are frequent and often accompanied by a huge, squeezy hug. And I compare my love for them to the stars in the sky or waters in the ocean... corny I know, I just want them to grasp how big that love is. With my husband I try to never say "I love you, too" because it sounds like it's in response to him saying it first instead of really feeling it. So, instead I firmly say back "I love you." He's been working so much that our I loves yous are over email... not great, but it is what it is. Great post! Blessings!

  7. I love your posts this week! Always encourages me!!;) I tend to say I love you alot but I notice when I get stressed out my actions don't always show it. I need to make sure my actions are speaking louder than my words!!!
